“[Love for Enemies] "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”- Matthew 5:43-45

I wish God would strike us with lightning bolts. It would make it easier to tell who is screwing up and who is doing it right.

Recently, I have been frustrated with people claiming God caused Katrina b/c of the abundance of sin in that area, or God is going to strike someone down for saying something sarcastic about God, or God is not going to bless you if you do not jump threw the right hoops, or God has a 40 day plan for you and it will unlock the purpose for your life.

Somewhere I lost the translation of our own sins. Where do we get off thinking that some "other sinners", who we probably have little to no relationship, should be judged any different then us? Experiencing lightning bolts, hurricanes, moments of doubt, and all the otherness of God invites us into complete fellowship with the relevance of God.

I just cannot justify thinking I have the earned the right to judge who God punishes and who God does not choose to punish. I pray I never forget the grace I have been given so undeservingly.
